Where Passion Meets Pedigree

Top Shelf Cane Corsos was born from a deep love for one of Italy's most majestic working breeds. What started as a single dog — Kahlua, our beautiful all-black Cane Corso — grew into a mission: to produce Cane Corsos that are not only physically superior, but mentally balanced, healthy, and deeply bonded to their families.

We believe the best dogs come from the best care. That's why every puppy in our program is raised on a raw food diet, socialized extensively, and matched with families who are ready for the commitment this magnificent breed demands.

Champion Bloodlines
Every dog in our program traces back to ICCF and AKC registered champions with verified health clearances.
Raised with Love

A Legacy Forged in Ancient Rome

The Cane Corso carries over 2,000 years of history in its powerful frame — from Roman battlefields to Italian estates to your family home.

100 BC – 400 AD

The War Dog of Rome

The Cane Corso descends from the Roman Canis Pugnax — powerful war dogs used by Roman legions in battle. These dogs were prized for their ferocity, loyalty, and imposing size.

500 – 1400 AD

Guardian of the Estate

As the Roman Empire fell, these dogs transitioned to estate guardians, hunting companions, and livestock protectors across the Italian countryside. The name 'Corso' derives from the Latin 'cohors' — guardian.

1900s

A Breed on the Brink

Industrialization and two World Wars nearly wiped out the Cane Corso. By the 1970s, only a handful of dogs remained in remote southern Italian villages.

1980s – Present

Restored to Glory

Italian breeders led by Giovanni Bonnetti launched a dedicated revival program. The ICCF was established in 1983, and the AKC recognized the breed in 2010. Today, the Cane Corso stands as one of the most sought-after guardian breeds worldwide.

The Ideal Cane Corso Owner

The Cane Corso is not a beginner's dog. This breed demands respect, structure, and an owner who can match its intelligence and strength. We carefully screen all families to ensure every puppy goes to a home where it will thrive.

Experienced & Confident

You've owned large or working breeds before and understand the importance of consistent leadership.

Active Lifestyle

You can provide daily exercise — walks, play sessions, and mental stimulation for a high-energy working dog.

Committed to Training

You're ready to invest in professional obedience training and continue reinforcing commands at home every day.

Stable Home Environment

You have a secure yard, a calm household, and the time to properly socialize your Corso from puppyhood.

Financially Prepared

You understand the cost of quality raw nutrition, veterinary care, and ongoing training for a large breed.

Patient & Consistent

You know that building trust with a Cane Corso takes time, patience, and unwavering consistency.

This Breed May Not Be the Right Fit If...

First-time dog owners with no large breed experience
Apartment living with no access to outdoor space
Owners who travel frequently or work 12+ hour days
Those unwilling to invest in professional training
Families with very young children and no prior Corso experience

We're here to help you decide. Book a call with us and we'll honestly assess whether a Cane Corso is the right match for your lifestyle.

Master the Powerful Mind

The Cane Corso is one of the most intelligent dog breeds. With the right training approach, they become obedient, focused, and deeply bonded to their handler. We provide guidance and resources to set your dog up for success.

Start Early & Stay Consistent
Begin training at 8 weeks old. Cane Corsos are intelligent and respond best to clear, consistent commands. Train 10-15 minutes daily rather than long sporadic sessions.
Positive Reinforcement Works Best
Use high-value treats, praise, and play as rewards. Harsh corrections damage trust. This breed wants to please — give them the right incentive.
Socialize Extensively
Expose your Corso to different people, environments, and dogs from puppyhood. Proper socialization prevents fear-based aggression and builds confidence.

Essential Commands to Master:

Sit / Stay / Down
Leave It / Drop It
Heel (loose leash walking)
Come (recall)
Place (go to bed/crate)

Keeping Your Corso Healthy & Strong

The Cane Corso is generally a hardy breed, but like all large dogs, they're prone to certain health conditions. Responsible ownership means staying informed and proactive about your dog's health.

Regular Vet Checkups

Annual wellness exams are essential. Cane Corsos should have hip and elbow screening (OFA/PennHIP) by 2 years old.

Maintain Healthy Weight

Obesity is common in large breeds and accelerates joint problems. Feed measured portions and monitor body condition.

Heart Health Screening

Cardiac evaluations (echocardiograms) should be done before breeding. Ask breeders for cardiac clearances.

Watch for Bloat

Gastric torsion (bloat) is a life-threatening emergency in deep-chested breeds. Feed smaller meals and avoid exercise after eating.
